What is an Apothecary?
Pronounced "uh-poh-thu-karee". Historically an Apothecary was the term given to the local “wise-woman / wise-man”, chemist or pharmacist who prepared and dispensed medicenes. It was also the term given for the shop where they sold their wares.
Nowadays the term taps into a holistic view of healing the "mind, body and spirit" such as the use of plant based oils, spices and herbs in natural personal care and spiritual well-being products.

Hi I'm Germaine and I'm the driving force behind Old Quay Apothecary. Welcome to my blog where I share insights into my soap making journey, easy to follow DIY skincare recipes, product information, hints and tips, "how to guides" and more!
I created Old Quay Apothecary because I have a passion for making natural skincare and use a lot of plant based ingredients in my skincare recipes. I chose the name because I live on an old slate quay along the beautiful Menai Straits in North Wales.
